Man konnte nicht immer sagen, dass jedes Wu-Tang Mitglied großartige Werke ablieferte. Gerade Method Man konnte seit seinem Debüt nicht mehr wirklich viel reisen. 2009 jedoch war für Wu-Tang insgesamt ein gutes Jahr. Raekwon überstrahlte alles mit seinem Sequel zum Klassiker Only built 4 Cuban Linx und Method Man vereinte mit Redman auf Blackout II alte Werte und neue Kräfte.
Weitere neue Projekte werden mit Spannung erwartet. Das Erste erschien am 16.02.2010 auf Gold Dust. Das inoffizielle 10. Mitglied (neben Cappadonna) des Clans, DJ und Producer Mathematics veröffentlicht Return of the Wu & Friends. Auf dem von ihm zusammengestellten Mix vereint er exklusive Tracks, vergessene bzw. bisher unveröffentlichte Songs mit ein paar klassischen Tunes. So gibt es auch neue Remixe zu Respect und Clap. Diese Songs waren bereits auf seinem Debüt aus dem Jahre 2003 schon mal zu hören. Mathematics dokumentiert hier vor allem seine Werke, die man auf The W und 8 Diagrams hören konnte. Gerade die Kollaborationen mit GZA und Meth&Red gehören zu seinen wichtigsten Werken. All Flowers und Masta Killa’s Iron God Chamber sind klassisches Wu-Material, das Fans lieben werden.

Zusammenfassend lässt sich die Compilation durchaus als gut bewerten: 16 Tracks mit gutem HipHop, der die Nostalgie des alten, ursprünglichen Wu-Tang Sounds wieder gibt und seine Entwicklung aufzeigt. Auch wenn hier kein neues Ice Cream oder Protec Ya Nec zu finden ist. Mit Early Grave gibt es aber noch einmal einen Banger der alten Klasse und ein seltenes Rapdokument des verblichenen ODB.

Die Bilder sind überall bekannt. Den verheerenden Erdbeben in Haiti sind mittlerweile mehrere Hunderttausende zum Opfer gefallen. Die Bergungs- und Aufräumarbeiten laufen nun seit mehreren Tagen schon ununterbrochen. Natürlich will man irgendwie helfen. Leider kann man nicht einfach so nach Haiti fliegen und dort mit anpacken. Daher bleibt die einzige Möglichkeit oftmals nur Spenden.

Das dachten sich auch Linkin Park, Peter Gabriel, Kenna, Lupe Fiasco, die Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette, Slash & Beth Hart, All-American Rejects, Enrique Iglesias und Hoobastank und stellten in Zusammenarbeit mit einigen Hilfsorganisationen das "Download to Donate for Haiti”-Projekt auf die Beine. Das Tape ist gratis zu bekommen. Man wird aber um eine Spende gebeten.

Der aus Chicago stammende 14-Jährige wurde ermordet, weil er sich während der Ferien, die er bei Verwandten in Südstaaten verbrachte, mit den Worten "Bye, Baby" bei einer Verkäufern verabschiedete. Kurz darauf entführten der Gatte besagter Verkäuferin und sein Bruder den jungen Schwarzen, misshandelten und töteten ihn.
Den Tätern wurde der Prozess gemacht, jedoch wurden sie von der Jury trotz Geständnis frei gesprochen. Das Urteil löste Empörung und Proteste im ganzen Land aus, welche zum Beginn der Bürgerrechtsbewegung beigetragen haben.

Aus North Carolina stammt der hier zu Lande unbekannte Rapper Big Pooh. Das wird wohl hoffentlich nicht allzu lange so bleiben müssen, wenn er weiterhin so fettes Zeug wie sein Mixtape The Purple Tape veröffentlicht. Produziert wurde das ganze von Black Milk, der sich bei den Beatz von Prince inspierieren ließ und so wundert es nicht, dass The Purple Tape (in Ahnlehnung an Prince's "Purple Rain") einem irgendwie vertraut, aber dennoch vollkommen neuartig erscheint.

Keri Hilson - In A Perfect World

Der Release von Keri's Debutalbum "In A Perfect World" liegt jetzt schon fast ein Jahr zurück. Dennoch konnte sie damit bisher in Deutschland noch keinen Hit landen. Das änderte sich mit ihrer aktuellen Single "I Like", die auch offizieller Titelsong von Til Schweiger's neuestem Film "Zweiohrküken" ist. Der Track landete nicht nur auf Platz 1 der Charts, sondern auch als Bonustrack auf Keri's erster Scheibe, die ab morgen unter dem Namen "In A Perfect World (I Like Edition)" in den Ladenregalen zu haben sein wird.

Das ursprüngliche Album ist bereits erstaunlich gut. Mit Lil'Wayne an der Seite eröffnet Keri mit dem beatlastigen "Turnin' Me On" ihr Erstlingswerke, bevor sie mit Unterstützung von Keyshia Cole und Trina auf "Get Your Money Up" geballte Frauenpower bündelt. Anschließend folgt mit "Return The Favor" der erste Song auf diesem Album, der von ihrem Mentor Timbaland produziert wurde. Dieser zählt meiner Meinung nach zu den besten des Albums und hat bereits einen festen Platz in meiner persönlichen Hitliste. Bei "Knock You Down" hat sich Ms. Keri zwar mit Kanye West und NeYo zwei hochkarätige Künster ins Boot geholt, dennoch wirkt der Song irgendwie eintönig und kann nicht wirklich überzeugen.
Der Mittelteil des Albums zeichnet sich eher durch langsamere Stücke ab. So eignen sich "Slow Dance" und "Make Love" für schöne gemeinsame Stunden zu zweit, während "How Does It Feel", "Alienated" und "Tell Him The Truth" am besten über die Ohrstöpsel des iPod zur Geltung kommen, weil sie einen sehr nachdenklich stimmen können. Diese ruhige Fassade wird lediglich durch Burner "Intuition" gesprengt - kein Wunder, wurde dieser doch wieder von Timbaland produziert.
Das Album wird durch den schnelleren Track "Change Me" mit Akon im Feature und das sehr eingängige "Energy" bestens abgerundet, nur der Schluss ruft mit "Where Did He Go" eine leichte Melancholie hervor.

Bei der "I Like Edition" kommen neben den aus Timbalands "Shock Value" bekannten Songs "The Way I Are" und "Scream" nun auch noch die Titel "I Like" und "Do It" hinzu, wobei mir letzterer noch unbekannt ist. Meiner Meinung nach ist das Album auch ohne diese Neuerungen einen Kauf Wert, daher halte ich das ReRelease etwas übertrieben. Angesichts des Erfolgs von "I Like" ist allerdings zu erwarten, dass die Dame mit der blonden Strähne ihr Album deutlich besser unter die Leute bringen wird als beim eigentlichen Release.

Method Man & Redman - Blackout 2

Ja, ich weiß, dass das Release schon ewig zurück liegt. Dennoch dachte ich, ich verliere ein paar Worte über das neueste Werk von Method Man und Redman, das den Namen Blackout 2 trägt. Das Album ist meiner Meinung eines der besten der letzten Monate. Das fängt schon mit dem Hammer Intro "BO2" bzw. dem Übergang zum 2. Track "I'm Dope N****". Ich hab selten so einen starken und impulsiven Einstieg in ein Album vernommen. Klar, dass man dann erstmal nichts skipt, sondern sich einen Track nach dem anderen rein zieht. Was man zu hören bekommt, kann sich auch wirklich hören lassen. Tracks wie z.B. "City Lights" brennen sich mit dem gleichnamigen Sample unwiderruflich ins Gehirn und verfolgen einen von da an unaufhörlich. Und da wäre da auch noch "How Bout Dat", meiner Meinung nach der beste Track des Albums. Zum einen weil er sehr energiereich ist, zum anderen weil er mein persönlich Selbstbewusstsein sBigteigert.
